Well, I fought with my computer and technology quite a bit through this excursion, but I am happy with the end result. I created a short video on expectations for Articles of the Week. I'm happy with the topic I decided upon because it can be used by many individuals in my department. Not everyone is tech savvy with class websites/ schoology but many are. I can share this link with many of my colleagues and have it as a quick reference for students.
This video would not be the primary way for students to learn the content, but it could be a quick references if they were at home and trying to complete their homework. If I redid this video, or created another in the future, I would consider staying on each slide for a bit longer so that I could talk more about each aspect of the assignment. I would create a video like this again for big projects or assignments as a reminder or overview. The next time, I would also like to play more with the recording features so that it is in real time. I ended up using Jing to take images then had difficulty getting them into a screen cast to seamlessly put them together. I tried downloading their version of Snaggit, but it would not work on the current operating system I have on my Mac. I also tried using Screencast-o-matic but it was not a comfortable software to work on and was constantly having applet and plug-in issues.
This trimester, I am only teaching speech, so Articles of the Week are not applicable this term, but I will surely use it for students next year. I will also share this with colleagues who are ninth or tenth grade English this trimester. Despite the initial stress, this is resource I will use in the future.
