For the Face of the Class assignment, I modified a website that I created at the start of the year. I only used a class website (weebly) for one of my classes last year. I felt that it was very helpful and gave parents and students an opportunity to be more involved with our class activities OUTSIDE of the classroom. I also like that weebly gives you the opportunity to add attachments or handouts. This helps lower the number of copies I have to make (and saves trees!). This year, at the start of the year, I integrated google resources into my weebly like a google calendar and google slides. My weebly automatically updates when I make any changes to the google resources. This has helped me save so much time this year!
After watching our webinar, I did some updates to my website. Besides for updating the basic content for students, I also added the "About Me" page. I had never had a page like this before, and I'm really not sure why I hadn't thought of it. It makes sense to include an "About Me" and give parents a frame of references for who you are, what you do/teach and an easy way to contact you. I also played around with effects on the photo that I put on the "About Me" page. I knew that you could upload pictures (I hadn't used this feature much, as I usually had more content on my pages), but I did not know that you could make so many changes to them. I played around with a few effects and picked the one I liked best.
Though at times, it can be a bit stressful to constantly update, the benefits of a classroom website really outweigh the costs. Thanks to Google resources, it has made the updating process a bit easier. I will definitely have a class website for all of my future classes.
