2013-2014 ACT Breakdown (Birmingham)
Mean Scaled ACT scores for Groves High School 2010-2014
2013-2014 State of Michigan Mean Scaled Scores
For my measuring processes poll, I wrote questions focused toward my peers within the Groves community. Here is a link to the Google Form. These are questions that resonate very deeply with the ideas and practices that have been put forth by our district in our evaluation process this year. We are currently monitoring many of these aspects on a regular basis.
Questions in the form of formative assessments can be used to help gauge the engagement and understanding of students, particularly students who fall within the bottom 30% of our achievement gap. These students predominately fall within our minority and economically disadvantaged groups. Personally, I would like to focus on engagement questions to make sure students are involved in the classroom content. Though standardized testing is a touchy subject, engagement and understanding of classroom content can lead to students growth in all areas, including standardized test scores.
Examples:
9th Grade- How can you personally relate to the themes found in Raisin' in the Sun?
9th Grade- How can you apply the Hero's Journey to your own life?
9th Grade- Make a text to text, text to self or text to world connection to Act 4 of Romeo and Juliet?
These questions would be formative assessments at the end of the hour to check for understanding. Aspects of each question are focused specifically toward minority groups in the hope that they can make personal connections to the text.
